Early PlasticsSnooker Ball

Most snooker balls in the 1860s were made of ivory, but this was expensive, unreliable (and cruel). This snooker ball is made of compression moulded Parkesine (cellulose nitrate). Parkesine is the trademark for the first man-made plastic, which was invented by Alexander Parkes in 1862.
