Solar Powered Light bulbs made from Plastic

In the squatter areas of The Philippines, candles and kerosene lamps often light the homes of people who can’t afford electricity. This often causes fire accidents that may consume an entire neighborhood in a single night. The Litter of Light Project by My Shelter Foundation uses an empty plastic litter bottle, water, bleach, and solar power to light up homes of people accustomed to living in the dark. The litter bottle is filled with water mixed with bleach (like Zonrox), and installed in roofs with sealant. The difference is almost comparable to having an electric light bulb in the room. Simple technologies like this make a difference in the quality of people’s lives, even through the use of a simple plastic bottle.
